Privacy Policy – WegLabs / WayGermany
We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring that your data is handled responsibly and transparently, in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other applicable data protection laws in the European Union.
1. Who We Are
WegLabs is an independent creative tech lab focused on building our own digital products, including the WayGermany app.
Our headquarters are based in the European Union.
If you have questions or concerns regarding this Privacy Policy, you can contact us at:
- Email: contact@weglabs.com
- Website: https://www.weglabs.com
2. What Data We Collect
Depending on how you interact with our website or apps, we may collect the following types of data:
a. Personal Information
- Name, email address, or contact details (for example, when you create an account or contact us).
- Language preferences and region settings.
b. App Usage Data
- Progress in checklists, tasks, and reminders.
- Migration test results or other self-input data (used only within your account).
- Basic app interaction data (for example, which features are used most), collected via analytics tools.
c. Device & Technical Data
- Device type, operating system, app version, and crash/usage analytics (to improve app performance).
- IP address and general location (for security and analytics purposes).
We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal data such as political opinions, religion, or health data.
3. How We Use Your Data
We use your data only for purposes such as:
- Providing, operating, and improving our apps and services.
- Personalizing your experience (for example, showing content in your selected language).
- Synchronizing your data securely across devices (via Firebase / Firestore).
- Understanding how the app is used, so we can make it better (analytics and performance).
- Sending important notifications or updates, if you opt-in.
We never sell your personal data to third parties.
4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is securely stored using trusted third-party services, primarily:
- Google Firebase / Firestore (for authentication, storage, and sync)
- Firebase Analytics (for usage analytics)
These providers apply industry-standard security measures and are compatible with GDPR and EU data protection requirements.
We use encryption, access control, and regular monitoring to protect your data from unauthorized access, alteration, or loss.
5. International Data Transfers
Because we rely on cloud providers such as Google Firebase, your data may be processed on servers located outside the European Union.
When this happens, we ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place, such as:
- Standard Contractual Clauses
- Other measures required by GDPR for international data transfers
6. Your Rights (Under GDPR)
If you are located in the European Union, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right to Access: Request a copy of your personal data.
- Right to Rectification: Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Right to Erasure: Request deletion of your personal data (“right to be forgotten”).
- Right to Restrict Processing: Ask us to limit how your data is used.
- Right to Data Portability: Request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Right to Withdraw Consent: Withdraw your consent at any time where processing is based on consent.
You can exercise these rights by contacting us at contact@weglabs.com.
7. Third-Party Services
Our applications may use third-party tools and services to operate efficiently, such as:
- Firebase (Google LLC) – authentication, database, storage, hosting, and analytics
- Crash and performance tools – to detect issues and improve stability
Each third-party service has its own privacy policy and implements its own security measures. We choose providers that align with GDPR requirements where applicable.
8. Data Retention
We retain personal data only for as long as necessary to:
- Provide the services you requested
- Fulfil the purposes described in this Privacy Policy
- Comply with legal obligations
If you delete your account (see section “Account & Data Deletion”), your associated personal data in our primary systems is deleted or anonymized within 30 days, unless a longer retention period is required by law (for example, for security logs or legal obligations).
Aggregated and fully anonymized analytics data may be retained longer, since it no longer identifies you as an individual.
9. Account & Data Deletion (WayGermany App)
You can request deletion of your WayGermany account and associated data in two ways:
a. Deleting Your Account from Inside the App
If you still have access to the app and your account:
- Open the WayGermany app.
- Go to Profile / Settings → Delete account.
- Confirm the deletion when asked.
When you confirm account deletion inside the app:
- Your user profile (name, email, selected visa type, preferences) stored in Firestore is deleted.
- Your checklists and tasks (before/after migration steps) are deleted.
- Your reminders stored on our backend are deleted.
- Your migration test results and related data stored under your user ID are deleted.
- Your authentication account (for example, Firebase Auth with Google sign-in or email/password) is deleted.
- Locally stored app data associated with your account (such as cached checklists and reminders) is cleared on the device.
Some aggregated, non-identifiable analytics data (for example, total number of users who completed a certain step) may be retained, but this data cannot be linked back to you personally.
b. Requesting Deletion via Email (If You Can’t Access the App)
If you no longer have access to the app or the device, you can request deletion by email:
- Send an email to contact@weglabs.com
- Use the subject line: “WayGermany – Account deletion request”
- Include the email address you used to sign in to the app
- If needed, we may ask for additional information to verify that you are the owner of the account.
Once we verify your identity, we will delete your account and associated personal data from our systems, following the same process described above.
There is no charge for requesting account deletion, and you do not need to provide a reason.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect:
- Changes in our products or services
- Updates in legal or regulatory requirements
- Improvements in how we communicate about privacy
Significant changes will be highlighted in the app or on our website.
